Everybody involved in a wonderful world of digital books is witnessing currently a huge trend: e-books become mobile. And it’s not just another form of an electronic book. It’s the new generation, which doesn’t have most of disadvantages of a first gen e-book. This is leading to one thought:
Mobile e-books deserve to have their own name. I call them “mo-books”.
There are a couple of reasons for that:
E-book is a bad thing :. For many people, especially book lovers, computer e-book is a surrogate, side effect or a bastard baby of a paper book. They associate electronic books with inconvenient text documents, being read on a 800 x 600 screen – in most cases at work. The stereotypical meaning of an e-book is: a document you read at work for professional purposes, which is as boring as any other computer document, well, apart from the fact that somebody, some day called it “a book”.
Mo-book means pleasure :. Major disadvantage of computer e-book is lack of mobility. Mo-books are mobile as hell. Much more than p-books. Mobility leads to a simple thing: pleasure of reading. I can download a couple of dozens of books to my mobile phone or an eReader and take it to places, where I used to read my beloved paper books. The experience is different, times change, but pleasure is back.
Mo-book is a chance for fiction literature :. An evolution from Gutenberg to post-Gutenberg times is affecting mostly fiction literature. There was no place for fiction in a first gen e-book world, devoted mostly to non-fiction. People stop reading books as they have a lot more attractions in the Internet, and reading a 700-page novel seems to be a total waste of time. But the same novel on a smartphone – that’s a different story. It belongs to a new digital life and it’s not obsolete any more. This is the way people can rediscover the joy of reading fiction literature.
Mo-books can be a great conversion tool :. There are millions of people who are constantly rejecting electronic books. In my opinion, instead of trying to convince them to accept e-books (already mentally rejected), it will be much easier to propose an alternative. The chances to accept something new are much bigger. And mo-book is a new thing. And it’s a really good thing.
Shift from p-books to mo-books can be quicker and less painful than from p-books to e-books.
They are already being called 'm-books' – no need to create your own name for them. Plus the screen on mobiles is too small for comfortably reading.

It's not too small. It has a width of a newspaper column. You can adjust font size, so it can be bigger than the size of a newspaper font. Is newspaper font too small for you?
