How much does it cost to self-publish a book? (infographic)

The times when self-publishing was about uploading a text file to a self-pub platform together with a DIY cover are gone. More and more authors are looking for professional help in writing and promoting their books.

Reedsy is a platform that connects authors with the best publishing professionals: editors, cover artists, and marketers.

Their team has just released an infographic that answers a question many authors ask these days: How much does it cost to self-publish a book if I want to do it right?

The figures come from the Reedsy marketplace:

The data was extracted from the last 2,000 quotes sent on Reedsy by our professional editors and designers. We haven’t modified it and the information presented below is the raw data from our database.

The average cost of professional cover design is $700. If you want a cover and interior, you’ll pay on average $1,250. Copy editing and proofreading costs $720 for a book with 40,000 words, and twice as much for 80,000 words.

You’ll find the detailed explanation in the blog post on Reedsy.
