In the past two years, e-reader ownership declined by one-third (chart)

Technology Device Ownership: 2015 report from Pew Research, shows that 68% of Americans have smartphones.

Smartphones and tablets are the fastest-growing device categories. On the opposite side of the landscape is the e-reader.

After a stunning growth reaching 32% of US adults who owned e-readers in early 2014, the ownership of these single-purpose devices declined by one-third, to land at 19% in the second half of 2015.

These changes are all taking place in a world where smartphones are transforming into all-purpose devices that can take the place of specialized technology, such as music players, e-book readers and gaming devices.
