Artificial intelligence was extremely clever long before ChatGPT

Famous book quotes completed by AI software based on GPT-2 language model back in 2019 / Images: Ebook Friendly

Back in 2019, I used an early AI tool created by Adam King to complete famous quotes about books and reading.

The tool, then called Talk to Transformer, and now still available as InferKit is a simple text generator that uses a neural network to complete text prompts.

At that time, Talk to Transformer was based on a GPT-2 language model released by OpenAI, and trained on a dataset of 8 million web pages.

Yes, OpenAI is the same company that released ChatGPT – a bot that has already co-authored dozens of books published on Amazon so far and could pass an MBA exam.

Let’s see how Talk To Transformer completed two book quotes. They are shown below. The remaining ones are available at Ebook Friendly.

Human & AI book quote 1

Original

A book is a dream that you hold in your hand. – Neil Gaiman

Completed by AI

A book is a dream that you keep because it’s worth it, even when it doesn’t live up to your expectations.

A book is a dream that you can reach.

A book is a dream that you can’t put down, a dream that you can’t get rid of, and it’s that dream that makes you believe in something bigger.

A book is a dream that you will never be able to live without.

Human & AI book quote 2

Original

A room without books is like a body without a soul. – Marcus Tullius Cicero

Completed by AI

A room without books is like a classroom without a teacher.

A room without books is like living in the middle of a cemetery without a grave.

A room without books is like a lonely forest.

A room without books is like a blank page in your mind.

A room without books is like a cell without air.
